Abstract

The article analyzes Marx’s contribution to the formation of modern socialism and the various phases in which his vision of the strategy of social emancipation develops. Unlike anarchists and other socialists, Marx thinks that social transformation requires the conquest by the working class of state power, which should not be kept as it is, but profoundly transformed. To achieve this end the working class must organize itself with an autonomous political party. But the political struggle presupposes the economic and trade union struggle, of which Marx defends the importance against those who thought it was useless, because in capitalist society it was not possible to obtain a significant increase in workers’ wages. In the 1870s, Marx accompanied the development of the first modern social democratic parties and criticized the reformist tendencies that were beginning to emerge.
