Abstract

The essay discusses in several aspects the volume edited by Daniela Rando and Eva Schlotheuber, Carlo IV nell’Italia del Trecento. On the one hand, the volume is proposed as a mature development in the historiography of the crisis of the Empire; on the other, the results of the studies are discussed, emphasising the emerging aspect of the political and cultural actors involved in Charles IV's policies in their interactions with subalpine realities.
