Abstract

In this essay, I provide a preliminary survey of the Gallicisms in the Vita Nova and propose an interpretation of their stylistic function. More specifically, I aim to trace the strategies through which Dante appropriates the Gallicism, with particular regard to troubadour lyric and to the poetic corpus of the Sicilian School. Finally, the employment of Gallicisms in the Vita Nova is examined in relation to their presence in Dante’s major works.
