This article outlines a semiotics of dust, observing an apparently marginal and insignificant element as an object of cultural analysis. The reflection is divided into three main levels: the dust particle as the minimum unit of meaning, the semantic oppositions that govern its uses, and the aesthetic/magical reversal of the value of dust.
