Abstract

The paper analyses two bilingual (Neapolitan-Italian) sectoral repertoires by Federico Gusumpaur: the Vocabolario ornitologico napolitano-italiano (1874) and the Vocabolario botanico napolitano (1887). After some remarks on the author, whose basic biographical data are unknown, I will describe the main characteristics of the two repertoires: the criteria used, the glossing system, the probable sources, and the destination. I will also focus on the differences between the two vocabularies, which consist in the presence of two alphabetical indices (Latin-Neapolitan and Italian-Neapolitan) in the Vocabolario botanico napolitano and the non-merely local destination of this second repertoire.
