Abstract

The paper investigates, through some initial linguistic surveys, the slang component of the lexicon of «canti a fronna ’e limone», popular musical forms definedas «a distesa», characterized solely by the voice, without instrumental accompaniment. The contribution also proposes some examples of street vendors’ voices and songs from the prison. Moreover, the paper presents a manuscript testimony of a «fronna ’e limone» written on the last chart of a script for a play by Salvatore Di Giacomo. In this testimony emerges the process of formal deformation typical of slang emerges. Finally, a new perspective of study, combining dialectology, ethnography and ethnomusicology is presented. This is made possible by the recently
started examination of the Roberto Leydi Fund preserved at the Centro di dialettologia e di etnografia in Bellinzona (CH).
