Isthmic paths: itineraries between Poleis in the Greece of Italy
The research actively engages with the objectives of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), while also proposing to expand its opportunities through complementary and sustainable actions, reflecting on the genius loci of the Poleis in Southern Magna Graecia. Through an experimental approach to architectural and urban composition, explicitly multiscalar and transdisciplinary, the Greek city and its components are taken as archetypal models for the reconstruction and reinterpretation of contemporary southern realities. Starting from the hypothesis of the geographical and semantic dimension of the polis, the study defines as its area of focus the southern Italian region (Campania, Calabria, Basilicata), corresponding to the territories of Magna Graecia and intersected by the isthmic routes, with the goal of outlining a methodological approach to the reconstruction of southern metropolitan areas. The research thus explores the relationships between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas, identifying historical routes linking the two seas that played a key role in the settlement processes of Southern Italy.
