Abstract

In this article we wish to systematize and present to an international

audience the state of the arts in preventive practices aimed at young people

in the field of gender violence and an accompanying policy framework in

the specific context of Catalonian society. This article is the result of the

research we are carrying out in the Gap Project for training professionals

working with the youth around gender violence. We will justify at the onset

the extreme importance of this topic by presenting some evidence of the

grave situation for young people on this issue. We shall then continue with

a critical contextualization of state legislation in order to proceed to

highlight the differences and similarities of other regional proposals. We

end our presentation by critically analyzing a selection of preventive

resources directed to the youth as developed in the Catalonian context.

Author Biographies

Barbara Biglia, Universitat Rovira i Virgili

Barbara Biglia with a PhD in psychology (2006) is actually lecturing at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili where, among other things, she coordinates the Interdisciplinary Working Group on Feminist Research Methodology (www.simref.net) . She is a member of Gredi and Grec research groups, and also at the Institute IIEdG and the Discourse Unit international team. Her expertise in the area of gender related violences is both academic and practic having been in charge of a women’s service. She is actually the Catalan coordinator of the European research GAP Work. Many of her publications are available at: http://urv.academia.edu/BarbaraBiglia 

Maria Olivella Quintana, PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University Rovira i Virgili

Maria Olivella Quintana is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University Rovira i Virgili where she is conducting a research about sexual and reproductive health public services in the region of Barcelona. She is also currently a team member of the European research GAP Work, where she is carrying out a policy analysis on gender related violence in several European countries. She holds a Master in Gender and Development from the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex University, UK. Besides her work in academia, she has worked on awareness, advocacy and fundraising for different Spanish NGOs focused in gender and sexual and reproductive health.

Edurne Jiménez Pérez, European project GAP Work

Edurne Jiménez Pérez Sociologist and Master in Population and Territorial Studies, she is currently a researcher at the European project GAP Work, where she is working on the design and evaluation of gender-related violences trainings for professionals. She is also member of the SIMReF team where she coordinates the online course on introduction to feminist research methodology.

She is also the president and the project coordinator of the Associació Candela that works since 2004 on the prevention of gender-related violences, coeducation and emotional and sexual health addressed to the educational community, women and non profit organisations.
