Abstract

The article aims to offer a contribution to the reconstruction of the biographical profile of the Barnabite architect Giovanni Ambrogio Mazenta (1565-1635), who contributed in a fundamental way to reshaping the ecclesiastical spaces according to the functional and liturgical needs of the Counter-Reformation. The unpublished documents presented here enable us to gain a deeper understanding of the skills Mazenta acquired during his career and to expand the areas in which he worked. At the same time, they document his closeness to Urban VIII and Cardinal Francesco Barberini who requested his services in Rome.
