Abstract

Since some years the University of Naples Federico II, particularly within the forward-looking cultural program adopted by the new Rector Prof. Gaetano Manfredi, is putting its focus on promoting some actions aimed at training, research and internationalization, that are able to bring back Naples at the centre of European culture, thus giving back to our University and to our city the role rightly performed for many centuries.

The image of a city and its landscape is part of cultural heritage: by studying it, we can promote the historical knowledge of urban structures and their territories, considered as public goods worth to be protected and improved: many times we have been able to clarify our position on this issue, including some recent meetings with scholars engaged for a long time on the subject of historical urban landscape.
