Abstract

In Trieste the scenographic Scala dei Giganti by Ruggero and Arduino Berlam was designed in 1905 to reach the Fornace hill and model the portal of the underlying tunnel which, together with nearby San Vito gallery, was to connect the downtown area with that of factories and construction sites. The work, built in 1907, still constitutes the imposing backcloth of neighboring square and a elegant connection between the center and historic area of the city.
