Abstract

Traditionally used for the movement of animals, vehicles and goods, the ramp and the inclined plane accompagned the growth of urban spaces in the twentieth century both and the development of innovative typologies, which are marking the architectural transition from the industrial paradigm to the environmental one. Through the reinterpretation of a series of key designs, the author describes their evolution from functional to aesthetic and ethical devices, revealing their role in representing and promoting different ideas of humanity.
