Presentation

The «Giornale di Storia della Lingua Italiana» (GiSLI) is issued twice a year. It is a meeting place for research perspectives with a focus on the connections between texts, language and style and on the role of linguistic and stylistic analysis as a tool for the overall interpretation of a text or of broader historical and sociocultural dynamics. GiSLI aims to renew a tradition of studies which, within the scientific disciplinary sector L-Fil-Let/12, has combined historical-linguistic interest with attention to historical-social contexts and, at the same time, has promoted the use of linguistic and stylistic analysis as a primary approach to the interpretation of texts and their authors. The journal, therefore, aims at enhancing an idea of the History of the Italian language that does not exclude any level of linguistic analysis (from phonomorphology and syntax to lexicon, textuality and pragmatics) and gives prominence and space – among textual epochs and genres – to issues related to conversational traditions, as well as to metrical and rhetorical-stylistic aspects. The main qualifying elements of the journal are its wide diachronic spectrum (from the origins to the present day), the attention it devotes to contemporary literary texts, its interest in the history of the discipline, the extension of its boundaries and the comparison with the methods of nearby and similar disciplines, as well as the openness to the fields, methods and instruments of recent linguistic research.

Sections and columns

Each GiSLI issue will consist of the following sections:

• Studi e saggi [‘Studies and Essays’];
• Prospettive [‘Perspectives’], with rotating columns, namely Sguardi sul contemporaneo [‘Views on contemporary issues’], featuring essays on texts and themes related to the present years; Confluenze [‘Convergencies’], i.e. papers exploring the edges of the history of the Italian language, with cross-disciplinary contaminations; Ingrandimenti [‘Blow-ups’], with readings and analyses of individual texts;
• Resoconti [‘Reports’], featuring contributions and reviews of major congresses and cultural events in the field of history and linguistics, historical-critical reconstructions of specific bibliographic chains, in-depth debates and notes on individual publications.

Open access

GiSLI publishes its contents on an open-access basis, in order to ensure the widest possible dissemination and circulation of historical-linguistic knowledge that has been closely scrutinized by the scientific community. The journal does not charge for submission and/or peer review of articles (APC). All published material is made available using the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) license. With the CC-BY license, authors retain the copyright on their contributions, but users are allowed to download, reuse, reprint and distribute the materials published by GiSLI, on the only condition that the author and the title of the journal are properly attributed and cited.

Peer review and archiving policies

All papers published in GiSLI are subject to double-blind peer review by at least two referees selected from a wide international network of specialists. Their names are published on the constantly updated page Referees; their assessments are archived in the reserved area.

Through the Centro di Ateneo per le Biblioteche of the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, GiSLI adheres to the procedure of digital repository at Magazzini Digitali, a system for the permanent storage of electronic documents published in Italy and disseminated via computer networks. Magazzini Digitali is managed by the National Libraries of Florence (BNCF), Rome (BNCR) and Venice (BNM). Each article is assigned a National Bibliography Number (NBN) for permanent identification.
