Abstract

The analysis of a witness record (1220) helps shed light on the various aspects of two knights’ local hegemony: material (wealth) and symbolic aspects (prestige) are intertwined in a power system grounded on hierarchy, intermediation and, most of all, the monopolization of key function in the local setting.
