Abstract

The editors present the collective research on rural knights in Italy between the 10th and 13th centuries, from which the contributions gathered in this section originated. They situate the work within the historiographical debate and focus on several issues related to the sources and research methodologies, as well as on the knowledge contributed by the various case studies.
