Abstract

The article clarifies some methodological issues related to the debate on the volume Writing the Holy Land, and in particular the concept of cultural memory and the role of writing in the creation of a shared memory. It also clarifies the position of the book in the context of recent studies on the Holy Land, showing the central role of the writing activity of the Friars Minor of Jerusalem, a subject that had been neglected until now in the study of the relationship between Latin Christianity and the holy places.
