Abstract

During the Late Middle Age, Irish society was founded on clientship relations that sometimes stemmed from a deliberate choice of free individuals who subdued themselves to most powerful groups, and other times arose from economic dependance. This study is mainly based on legal documents and is provided with a glossary.
