An unpublished letter that the Sforza commander (but of Aragonese origin) Roberto San Severino wrote from Modone to the Sienese diplomat Ludovico Petroni da Modone during his return journey from his pilgrimage to the Holy Land (autumn 1458) suggests that he played a political role in the organisation of the crusade that Popes Callixtus III and then Pius II were planning.
