Seven hundred and fifty years from the battle of Benevento between the Angevin troops of Charles I and the southern Swabian army of Manfredi, this article proposes an account of the battle that took place in 1266 and which resulted in the change of dynasty in the kingdom of Sicily. The report unfolds through the testimony of contemporary writers belonging to the two political factions of the time who left a personal chronicle of the events. The result is an unusual portrait of the main characters and a narration of the events that follows, in different interpretations, the ideology and psychology of direct and indirect witnesses of the time, rather than the characters involved in the ancient clash.
