Abstract

A new documentary corpus for the study of the Jews of L’Aquila in the 15th century

The article presents the bulk of new and unpublished documents concerning the Jews living in L’Aquila (Abruzzo) during the 15th century. They were found in the State Archives of L’Aquila within the records of the notary Giovanni Cassianelli of Roio, and consist of eighty-five acts pertaining to various Jewish individuals. Of these, at least sixty-seven acts refer to members of a single family, the Buonomo. The article offers a brief description of what is already known about this family and illustrates, along with an overview of the documents, the new research perspectives which this discovery can address.
