Abstract

Ernst Blass is among the founders of German Expressionism; nevertheless, the originality of his work rejects any attempt to place his production within categories of canon. Sobriety and antirhetoric distinguish his lyrics. His poetic writing shows no interest in visionary anticipations of the future; on the contrary, it aims at constructing a general – yet concise – model of reality.
