About the Journal

Focus and Scope

SigMa Rivista di Letterature comparate, Teatro e Arti dello spettacolo is the international yearly scientific journal of the Sigismondo Malatesta Foundation. With a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective, SigMa includes articles on literature, theatre, cinema and visual arts, considered in their diachronic and synchronic dimension. The journal promotes the scientific debate at the highest levels, starting from the emerging theoretical and methodological tendencies, their perspectives and applicative possibilities, without neglecting their relations with the models of the tradition.

Languages of publication
SigMa publishes articles mainly in Italian, but is also open to contributions in other European and extra-European languages.

Typologies and length of the articles
The journal publishes original scientific articles, after the approval by anonymous reviewers. Every issue consists of a monographic section that includes the proceedings of the Laboratori, the Ricerche and Seminari Malatestiani, edited by an expert scholar from the field. It includes also the section Varia, with peer-reviewed articles submitted to the journal. The length of the articles should usually not exceed the 40,000 characters (spaces, footnotes and bibliography included), and must respect the editorial guidelines. In addition to these two sections, the journal contemplates other sections aimed at embracing other areas and modalities of the scientific debate (Discussioni and Biblioteca Malatesta) and the current cultural criticism (Interviste and Scenari).

Peer Review Process

The first evaluation of the submissions is carried out by the editors of the sections, in order to assess the appropriateness to the journal’s thematic lines, and agreement with minimum quality requirements. The Editorial Board anonymously forwards the original texts to two reviewers, who may be members of the Scientific Committee or external scholars. In the case of noticeably discordant reviews, a third evaluation is requested. On the basis of the reports obtained from the reviewers, the Editorial Secretary communicates the result of the evaluations to the authors, explaining the final decision (rejection or acceptance) and possibly asking for adjustments. Once the authors have amended their texts, the contributions are revaluated by the editors of the sections, with the assistance of other members of the Editorial Board.
