Recently Spanish theatre is showing a great vitality due to the fact that playwrights have chosen to represent the historical events which are characterizing the beginning of the 21st century. Terrorism, religion wars, mass migration, and political instability are the main protagonists on Spanish stages nowadays. The political potential of theatre is therefore fully exploited and deeply affects the textual structure of the plays as well as the language and the theatrical techniques. Which could be the responses of theatre to uncertainty, fear, and doubt? How are they formulated in textual and performative terms? The paper tries to give an answer starting from the works of Angélica Liddell, Juan Mayorga and other Spanish playwrights.
