Abstract

This article means to show, through a few examples, how can anthropological pessimism coexist with laughter in the French moralists’ texts. Scarcely attempted, the analysis with freudian instruments of the mechanisms of laughter in the three great French moralists can reveal not only discursive strategies, but different polemic targets and a different attitude towards the ideal of honnêteté.

Federico Corradi, Università di Napoli “L’Orientale”

Federico Corradi insegna Letteratura francese presso l’Università di Napoli “L’Orientale”. Specialista di Seicento, ha studiato in particolare l’opera di La Fontaine, la tradizione della favola umanistica e la scrittura della storia nel Grand Siècle. Ha curato l’edizione critica di opere di Saint-Réal e Saint-Évremond e tradotto testi di Madame de Lafayette e Molière. Si è occupato inoltre di romanzo e storia nella narrativa francese contemporanea.
