Abstract

By analysing the opera and dance libretti from 1760 to 1782, we can reconstruct the various stages that led Giuseppe Salomoni (1730-1805) – a famous exponent of the “grotesque genre” – to react to the aesthetic lines emerging in European ballet and launch the requalification of traditional Italian dance with the aim of enhancing expressive effects from a new dramatic perspective.
