In light of current developments in Hungarian and East-European literary theory, and as an element of a systematic work on the thought of György Lukács (connected with the rereading of a monograph by B. Tottossy on postmodernity in Hungary), the contribution continues on the path started with some previous works that thematized categories including Weltliteratur; function of literary culture; participation in the historical present in acts and forms; literary art in the age of widespread aestheticism and the need for theory; quality of memory and possibility of a ‘literary totality’; the culturally concrete (literary and non-literary) individual and the act of historicizing; the concrete in literature with the gaze, culture, the other, reality; open (literary) science. The text reflects on the current debate involving ‘realism’ studies.
