Abstract

The Italian landscapes are in danger because of their progressive decline and it is necessary to reason about this emergency which everyone is not aware of. We live in an ambiguous way, according to which, abstractly speaking we are all in support of maintaining the integrity of our “country“ but we then have lifestyles which care little about our environment and landscape. Emphasizing landscape risk has an effect both on our collective conscience and on governamental territorial planning. The analysis of the risk to our landscape heritage belongs traditionally to research on our cultural assets in Italy and it makes use of the idea of prevention found in the Charter of Risks of the Ministry of Cultural Assets and Activities. To verify its applicability it is necessary to deepen the definition of a landscape asset according to the heritage view introduced by the European Convention and according to the legal one. From this point of view the projects of transformation of the territory can be conceived as critical points of risk control.
