Abstract

As part of a PRIN project on inequalities in Naples and Palermo, this text presents the results of a qualitative survey based on interviews and direct observations. This research, which attempts to investigate specific characteristics of the spatial structure and social dynamics in the urban centre of Naples, offers initial confirmation of certain hypotheses that assume the long-term existence of specific relationships between the ancient ways of social division of space and certain patterns of reproduction or partial overcoming of inequalities. The research covers the history of five families, analysing the social profiles of the blocks of flats and the context of the buildings where they live.
