Abstract

For about a decade in our country there has been a widespread use of instruments of a strategic nature. However, much of the experience of strategic planning has been scarcely incisive or effective inasmuch as much of the planning was hardly believable nor feasible. With regard to physical planning, the use of participation processes with regard to the choices seems indispensable to give efficacy and credibility to the process of territorial planning and to obtain useful results to increase in particular the quality of life in the city. From this viewpoint, this essay synthetically presents the experimental work of a research group of the LISUT of the University of the Basilicata working on the development and re-development of the city of Potenza, in order to develop a solid participation process with the goal of proposing the future urban and functional arrangements of the city.
