Abstract

This research examines the ability of urban planning to accommodate emerging urban management systems. The aim of this article is to describe these emerging procedures and whether the case studies (processes associated with alternative management of public space) are produced under new management systems.
Furthermore, through exhaustive evaluation of various informal experiences of urban management, we have sought solid principles to devise new forms of urban management. Therefore, not only we have analyzed the most important informal interventions in urban matters, but also we tried to discover its structure, an order for the disorder, a taxonomy of these procedures which reformulate existing forms of public governance.
The experiences analyzed are located in the city of Madrid. Three processes of appropriation of vacant spaces in the city: La Tabacalera, Esta es una Plaza and Campo de Cebada.
