Abstract

This paper focuses on the topic of housing for low income population. Accurately, this text reviews three debates which means three key moments for understanding the general development of the topic. The first debate revisited is related to the proposal of “half a good house”, created by Alejandro Aravena and his group ELEMENTAL. Behind his reasoning, it is easy to recognize the thinking of John Turner and his proposal of dweller control. This second debate resembles a third debate which is addressed in the text The Housing Question (1873) of Friedrich Engels. Finally, conclusions find a wide range of similarities among these debates even when they are framed in different cultural contexts.
