Abstract

This study presents three entries for the DESN: tata, tatillo and tatone. Belonging to the same lexical family, the three nouns are used to designate the father figure, despite some fluctuations in meaning. Through an etymological reconstruction and a description of the geographical diffusion of the lexical root tat-, this study attempts to highlight the importance of the lexical family in the Neapolitan area as opposed to the more widespread ones of papà and babbo.
