Abstract

Leonardo's masterpiece, the Last Supper, considered by Vasari to be “a beautiful and marvelous thing”, influenced artistic production immediately after its creation.

This artistic influence also had repercussions on Sicilian artists starting from the sixteenth century.

This contribution aims to highlight how Leonardo influenced various artists in their works, who nevertheless gave their own reinterpretation of the sacred event.

This influence is tangible in the sculpture of Antonello Gagini and the Calamech brothers with their students and collaborators, as well as in Gaetano Vinci from Naro, who, despite working in a time distant from Leonardo, shows himself to be so close to the Master's teachings.
