Abstract

The article departs from a chronological coincidence: 1481 is both the year in which Leonardo worked on the Adoration of the Magi for the church of San Donato in Scopeto, and in which Cristoforo Landino published the first critical edition of Dante Alighieri’s Commedia. On the basis of this synchronism, the essay explores the importance for Leonardo of Landino and, through him, of Leon Battista Alberti.
