NOTE SULLA LOCUZIONE “VERSARE LE PAROLE”

Abstract

This study focuses on the Hittite expression uttār išḫuwai- ‘to pour the words’. By means of a corpus-based approach, it is shown that this expression describes communication between men and gods. In order to gain a new perspective on its meaning, a comparison with similar collocations in other ancient Indo-European languages allows to reconstruct its origin and to motivate its descriptive value.
