Abstract

ECCLESIASTICAL BUILDINGS OF THE RELIGIOUS INSTITUTES:
REUSING AND INCREASING THE SOCIAL VALUE
Abstract
Today in Italy the ecclesiastical buildings underused or unused are an important real estate
stock, that it is going to increase. The typology, dimension, and potential of this stock are
still not studied. The research shows an analysis of the typology and consistency of these
buildings belonging to religious institutions, it investigates the reason of the abandonment
and it argues a new interpretative category related to the increasing value of the real estate,
according to their nature: the increasing of the social value. Through the analysis of three
case studies, identified as best practices, the article states the importance of the reuse of
these buildings increasing their social value, as practice to promote the value system
according to the principles of the Catholic Church.
