Abstract

Starting from the analysis of the Savoia area and extending the comparison to other western Alps regions, the study investigates into the relationships between the environment impact, the habitat characteristics and religious institutions (parishes, chapels, etc.). The framework is characterised, if not by static, by a slow growth. Only at the end of the Middle Age, in the background of the strengthening of the Prince State, the capillary rise of parishes institution – which defined the modern age - gathered way.
