Abstract

This article deals with textual representations of children, more specifically boys, in Josephus, rabbinic sources and inscriptions from Rome as young ṣaddîqîm whose maturity, intellectual abilities and piety are depicted as no less praiseworthy as those of adults. By comparing those Jewish sources with ‘pagan’ and Christian material through the puer senex motive, article's aim is determining Graeco-Roman influence while highlighting the specificities of Jewish depictions of wise children.
