This essay provides some ideas for the analysis of the relationship between contemporary cinema and news. The first part of the article offers a taxonomy of the transtextual relations established by contemporary cinema with news reports, within a theoretical framework inspired by structural semiotics and narratology. Drawing on aesthetics and media theory, the second part of the article explores instead the main aesthetic strategies through which cinema (re)authenticates the connection between news and reality, in opposition with the derealizing nature of the contemporary media imagery.Downloads
