Several Italian regions have promulgated laws to safeguard their respective linguistic heritages. This work underlines some characteristics of these laws and questions, in particular, the meaning of the denomination “Neapolitan linguistic heritage”, proposing that this label can refer to all the dialects of Campania. Furthermore, the need to reflect on the specific forms and objectives of protection initiatives is affirmed. The hypothesis formulated here is that, beyond simple statements of principle, it is appropriate to foresee four different phases: 1. Fruition (of the artistic uses connected to the dialects); 2. Information (through qualified disclosure); 3. Training (also through a reflection on the dialects proposed in the teaching); 4. Documentation / research.
