Abstract

On the occasion of the very recent publication (December 2023) of the Vocabolario del rom-anesco contemporaneo (VRC) by Paolo D’Achille and Claudio Giovanardi, with the collabora-tion of Kevin De Vecchis, this contribution presents some features of the work, framing it in the Roman lexicographic tradition. After briefly retracing the stages in the preparation of the vocabulary, some of the main aspects of the list of headwords are illustrated: the presence of entries, including Italian ones, of the numerous archaisms and the equally frequent juvenile words collected is highlighted, justified, and explained. The Roman lexicon documented in the VRC is therefore very stratified, but the marks placed on many headwords allow them to be correctly placed in the Roman linguistic continuum on a diastratic and diaphasic level.
