Dietro le quinte del Topolino napoletano

Abstract

This paper describes the approach taken in translating a Topolino comic story into Neapolitan. Syntactic, textual, and lexical choices aim to represent a variety of Neapolitan that reflects contemporary spoken usage. The technological vocabulary featured in the story has been rendered through loanwords adapted to Neapolitan and neologisms blending Italian and dialect. The adoption of the traditional Neapolitan orthography is also discussed and exemplified within the context of this work.
