Bad Girls. “Assassination Nation” and the Evolution of Teen Movie Between Exploitation and Moral Panic

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the case of the movie Assassination Nation in relation to the evolution of the juvenile delinquent drama. Through a historiographical reconstruction, it will be possible to point out the components of exploitation and moral panic that have influenced the definition of this particular subgenre of teen movie since its origin. It will thus be possible to stress the significance of the film in relation to the cultural production system of its own time.

Author Biography

Stefano Guerini Rocco, University of Bergamo

Stefano Guerini Rocco is a Teaching Assistant at the Catholic University of Milan. He earned is PhD at the University of Bergamo, developing a project about the evolution of the teen movie genre in the era of convergence culture. In 2019, he took part to the research project “International Circulation of Italian Cinema” (PRIN 2015) as a visiting researcher at the USI – Università della Svizzera Italiana and he started his collaboration at the Ce.R.T.A. – Centro di Ricerca sulla Televisione e gli Audiovisivi. He has participated in several international conferences and he has published in academic journals such as Comunicazioni Sociali, Imago, L’avventura.
