Abstract

The article examines how past and recent historiography has dealt with the diplomatic relations between the Crown of Aragon and the Mamluk sultanate. After having reassessed some paradigms that have long influenced the literature on the topic, the author presents some studies carried out in recent years as an effective example of “New Diplomatic History” applied to the analysis of the exchanges between the Crown and the Mamluks. Finally, the specific historical case of Ferrante’s Mediterranean politics is considered, to outline some prospects for future research.
